Privacy Policy
Last updated: 27 June 2026
This page explains what information Curiquiz ("we", "us") collects when you visit the site, how we use it, and what choices you have. By using Curiquiz you agree to this policy.
1. What we actually store
Curiquiz works without an account. We try to keep stored data to the absolute minimum:
- Player nicknames + emoji — the names and emojis you create for household play (e.g. "Sam 🐧"). These are nicknames you choose; we do not ask for real names. They are linked to a one-way hashed identifier of your network (not your IP address in readable form), so the same household sees the same players when they come back.
- Game scores — category, difficulty, number of correct answers and points, attached to the nickname above.
- Contact-form messages — only if you write to us via the contact page. We store the name, email, subject and message you typed so we can reply.
- Local browser storage — your cookie-banner choice and which profile you last selected. This stays on your device and we cannot read it.
We do not require sign-up, do not store passwords, and do not store your IP address or email anywhere outside the contact form.
2. Cookies and similar technologies
We use a small number of essential cookies and local-storage entries to remember preferences. We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking cookies.
3. Analytics
We do not run any third-party analytics on Curiquiz. There is no Google Analytics, no Microsoft Clarity, no Bing tracking, no heatmaps, and no session replay.
For our own traffic awareness we keep a tiny, privacy-friendly visitor counter: per page view we store the date, the path, and a short one-way hash of (date + IP + browser user-agent + a secret salt). The hash rotates every day, cannot be reversed to your IP, and is only used to count one visit per visitor per page per day. We do not set cookies, do not load any third-party script, and do not build a profile of you across pages or days.
4. Advertising
Curiquiz does not display ads at this time. We do not load any advertising scripts or share data with ad networks.
5. How we use your information
- To run quizzes, save scores, and power the household leaderboard.
- To respond to messages you send through the contact form.
- To detect abuse and keep the service healthy.
6. Data sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with the service providers we use to host the site, and only as needed for those services to function.
7. Your rights & how to remove your data
Because we store so little, removal is simple:
- Player nicknames & scores — clear them yourself by removing the profile inside the app, or by clearing your browser's site data for Curiquiz. If you'd prefer we do it, email us via the contact page with the nickname(s) and we'll delete the matching rows.
- Contact-form messages — write to us from the same email address you used and ask us to delete your message. We'll remove it from our backend.
- Access a copy — ask us via the contact form and we'll send back whatever we have on you (usually just your message).
We aim to action removal requests within 30 days. Since nicknames are not tied to a real identity, we may ask a clarifying question to make sure we delete the right rows.
8. California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) / California Privacy Rights
If you are a California resident, the CCPA and CPRA give you specific rights regarding your personal information.
Categories of personal information we collect
- Identifiers — hashed network identifier (not your readable IP), player nickname, and email address (only if you use the contact form).
- Internet or electronic network activity — basic request data needed to serve pages (handled by our hosting provider).
Your CCPA rights
- Right to know — You have the right to request what personal information we have collected about you in the past 12 months.
- Right to delete — You have the right to request that we delete your personal information, subject to certain legal exceptions.
- Right to opt-out of sale/sharing — We do not sell personal information for money, and we do not share personal information with ad networks or for cross-site behavioral advertising.
- Right to non-discrimination — We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your CCPA rights.
- Right to limit use of sensitive personal information — We do not collect sensitive personal information as defined by the CPRA.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us through the contact page. We will verify your request and respond within 45 days (or notify you if we need more time).
9. Children
Curiquiz is intended for a general audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "last updated" date above.
